If Valve suddenly unearthed voice lines recorded at the same time as the original ones, I'm sure those would sound a bit off as well.Īdditionally, unless Gary Schwartz amuses himself by making heavy or demoman voices in his free time, he's been doing lots of different voice work in the years between recording lines for TF2. I think it's partially because we've heard all of the old voice lines literally hundreds of times in the past decade, ingraining their exact tone, timbre, tempo, accent and everything into our brains. It's not that he's not trying, it's more that he's lost the ability to replicate the original voices. His most recent lines are just.really poor quality, even for the Demoman. In this line he seems to break character halfway through. And although this is pretty good from the same set of lines, it shows how inconsistent his voice has become, especially compared to that low Mann vs. You can tell his heart wasn't in the Halloween lines: compare this triumphant outcry to this rehearsed line. He was still doing a good job with the Demoman lines at that time ( this was probably his worst).
