Faerie Tale Theatre: The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers (1984).Bonus points for an actual black Scotsman. Demoman (also voiced by Gary) - Actual Scottish person. Then again, teleporter technology exists so he could probably hop back into wherever his homeland is when he's off-duty. Spy - French, possibly French-Canadian to explain why he's in the Americas instead of in Europe. He'd speak good English that would be just slightly off, but his Russian would be actually good. Heavy (voiced by Gary Schwartz) - Russian person, maybe even a Russian immigrant who has lived in the USA longer than in Russia.Yes, I know Sniper is from New Zealand, but since he was raised by an Australian family, he should sound like a cun-, I mean Strayan. Sniper - A real cun-, I mean Australian.Medic - Actual German person, or at least someone who spent a lot of time in Germany and the USA.If they're going to replace Gary, what about getting actual native speakers for the non-American classes? Listen to Nolan North voicing the engineer in Expiration Date. It's only natural for voice actors to forget exactly what the voice was supposed to sound like, especially if it's been years.Īnd plenty of characters in different media have had their voices change as the actor felt like it, professor Farnsworth for example sounds completely different in season 1 of Futurama.įinally, any replacement of Gary would result in an even more noticeably different voice for Heavy and Demoman.

If Valve suddenly unearthed voice lines recorded at the same time as the original ones, I'm sure those would sound a bit off as well.Īdditionally, unless Gary Schwartz amuses himself by making heavy or demoman voices in his free time, he's been doing lots of different voice work in the years between recording lines for TF2. I think it's partially because we've heard all of the old voice lines literally hundreds of times in the past decade, ingraining their exact tone, timbre, tempo, accent and everything into our brains. It's not that he's not trying, it's more that he's lost the ability to replicate the original voices. His most recent lines are just.really poor quality, even for the Demoman. In this line he seems to break character halfway through. And although this is pretty good from the same set of lines, it shows how inconsistent his voice has become, especially compared to that low Mann vs. You can tell his heart wasn't in the Halloween lines: compare this triumphant outcry to this rehearsed line. He was still doing a good job with the Demoman lines at that time ( this was probably his worst). Machine lines were recorded: this line sounds badly distorted and artificial, and most of his other Heavy lines are the same compare this original line. We can see that he was already starting to get worse when the Mann vs. Aging has affected him too much to maintain the same voices as the original lines. Getting started with the game? /r/NewToTF2 has great resources for newbies - no such thing as a stupid question!Īnd I think he has been for some time.If you have constructive feedback, concerns, or need help, we would love to hear from you! :) The /r/TF2 moderation team is always all-ears! /r/TF2WeaponIdeas - Brainstorming potential future TF2 weapons./r/RandomActsofTF2 - Giving away TF2 items in an altruistic manner.
